Celebrating collectors in our community
Cars gradually began to have a larger presence in Qatar in the mid 1950s. During this time, cars were mainly imported and acquired with the intent to facilitate everyday life activities. For some, this was a turning point in the country’s social history. The excitement generated by the new experience’s cars provided, was soon transformed into a passion for collecting cars. People collect cars to document and preserve pivotal moments in the nation’s history, evoke a sense of nostalgia, and establish a collection of exclusive classic cars. The Mal Lawal 3 Cars exhibition highlights two established Qatari car collectors: Mr Salem Saeed Al Mohannadi and Mr Omar Hussain Alfardan.
Mal Lawal (‘of the past’) is an exhibition that, since 2012, has showcased an incredible range of local and regional collectors. This third edition focuses on the stories of 26 Qatari general collectors and two Qatari car collectors.
Mal Lawal has evolved into a platform that transcends museum walls to: record local heritage, enhance collecting practices and promote the collectors and their knowledge across Qatar. Through the Mal Lawal 3 virtual exhibition, the Al Barzah Forum, and private initiatives, Mal Lawal fosters dialogue between collectors and the museum community.

بدأ عدد السيارات يتزايد في قطر بشكل واضح في أواسط الخمسينيات. وكانت تستورد خلال هذه الفترة لتسهيل شؤون الحياة اليومية، حيث شكل ذلك نقطة تحول مهمة في تاريخ البلاد الاجتماعي. وقد تولدت لدى بعض القطريين فيما بعد رغبة قوية باقتناء السيارات، من أجل توثيق المراحل الاجتماعية المهمة في تاريخ البلاد واستحضار الماضي، وامتلاك السيارات الكلاسيكية النادرة.
يشارك في معرض "مال لوّل 3" اثنان من جامعي السيارات الكلاسيكية القطريين، وهما السيد سالم سعيد المهندي والسيد عمر حسين الفردان.
يعني اسم "مال لوّل" في اللهجة المحلية "من الماضي". افتتح معرض "مال لوّل" للمرة الأولى عام 2012، وقد عرض فيه مجموعات متميزة لجامعين من قطر والمنطقة. يقدم المعرض في نسخته الثالثة مجموعات متنوعة لستة وعشرين مشاركاً من جامعي المقتنيات واثنين من جامعي السيارات.
يمثل معرض "مال لوّل" منصة تتجاوز جدران المتحف، يتم من خلالها عرض التراث المحلي وتعزيز ممارسة جمع المقتنيات، وتعريف الجمهور في قطر بالجامعين ومقتنياتهم. ويعمل على تعزيز الحوار بين هؤلاء الجامعين وبين الجمهور عبر النسخة الافتراضية لمعرض "مال لوّل 3"، ومن خلال منتدى برزة، والمبادرات الخاصة المختلفة.
